PLANS to develop an outside area of a Hoyland pub which will benefit the local community have been approved by the council.
The Furnace Inn, based on Milton Road, overlooks Milton Pond and the nearby beauty spots.
A planning application had previously been submitted for a canopy to be placed back in 2007 - but it was turned down by the council.
However, another application was submitted earlier this year for a similar scheme which was subsequently approved earlier this month.
The development will include a seated canopy area - and locals have said they approve of the scheme.
Applicant Albert Beevers has been working with Hirst Architects to ensure the plans will benefit the community.
Architect Luke Hirst told the Chronicle: “The Furnace Inn is a family-run business that caters for the local community, from our initial instruction back in March on the project it was blatantly obvious that this application was genuinely for the greater good of the applicant’s customers and the wider local area.
“We were working with someone who cared.
“Mr Beevers has a keen interest in re-investing into what people have said is much needed safe outdoor area overlooking the amazing views of the local pond and wildlife.
“A large number of positive comments were received from local residents including dog walkers, sufferers of dementia and veterans whom support the idea of an area where the local pond in Milton had a covered area where they could sit and enjoy the views and watch local wildlife.
“It must be said that this application was dealt with by the council in a highly professional manner which resulted in a positive affect for the greater good if the area which must be commended.
“A refreshing approach to development all round which we as a town must encourage.”
