First team coach Dean Whitehead has left Barnsley after two months at the club.
Whitehead, who joined the Reds to work under Darrell Clarke in July, has moved back to Stoke City where he spent much of his playing career.
The 41-year-old is expected to work under Narcís Pèlach who looks set to replace Steven Schumacher at the Championship Potters.
A Barnsley statement read: "We would like to thank Dean for his hard work over the past two months and we wish him well for the future. Connor Hourihane will step up to a broader role whilst also being available to Darrell Clarke as a player for the duration of the season."
Whitehead was part of Barnsley's staff at Old Trafford in the EFL Cup loss to Manchester United last night.
