A BARNSLEY farmer is preparing for his most mammoth task of the year - shearing almost 500 sheep across nine days.
David Nicholson, 49, is known for being Cannon Hall Farm’s expert lamber and is well versed in delivering hundreds of lambs and goats every year.
But now he’s embarking on his most difficult time of the year - where he has to shear the farm’s flock.
David, whose family run the visitor attraction in Cawthorne, Barnsley, said: “It is back-breaking work, it is so difficult and there definitely has to be a technique to it.
“It’s so demanding, I always drop lots of weight because it is such a strenuous job.
“But it is always a pleasure to let our visitors see a glimpse inside life inside a working farm and they seem to enjoy it and find it interesting.”
Visitors can see the David and the sheep shearing in the farm’s Sheep Shearing Festival which starts tomorrow and runs until June 2.
