COMMUTERS in Barnsley have railed against the ‘embarrassing’ morning train service to Sheffield with people ‘packed in like sardines’ and unable to get on and off overcrowded trains.
Rail users said the 8am service from Barnsley to Sheffield, which stops at every stop, is particularly overcrowded.

BARNSLEY has been selected as a host town for the Tour de Yorkshire for a second year running, it was confirmed this week.
Barnsley was among eight locations unveiled by Welcome to Yorkshire and the Amaury Sport Organisation at a launch event on Wednesday evening in Leeds, confirming Barnsley as one of the locations to host either the start or finish lines of part of the race next May.

A DODWORTH man’s 70th birthday celebrations have been put on hold after a garage fire.
Ian Harley and his wife Pat had only been out for 30 minutes on Wednesday when they returned to find the integral garage at their home on Cinder Hills Way on fire.

HUNDREDS of households have been warned about overnight railway maintenance work which will see chainsaws and other equipment disturbing residents through the night every weekend starting tomorrow until mid-December.
The scheme, which is being overseen by Network Rail, involves a nine-mile stretch of track along the Penistone Line along the Sheffield to Huddersfield route and is expected to last for 11 weeks.
