NEW traffic lights due to replace a bottleneck roundabout are due to be installed in the new year, Barnsley Council has said.
Cundy Cross roundabout is being removed and replaced with a traffic light-controlled junction as part of a plan to tackle traffic flows and accommodate the extra traffic generated by the 192-home estate being built on the former Priory School site.
Work started earlier this year but the Chronicle understands a hold-up has been caused by supplier issues and complications with the gas and electricity networks.
A spokesman for the council said: “Delays are down to unforeseen difficulties on site. Work is now back under way and due to complete in the new year.
“We’d like to thank people for the patience while we make improvements to Barnsley’s roads.”
