TV PRESENTER and former professional footballer Matt Le Tissier was speaker and guest of honour at the annual sporting event organised by Stainborough Cricket Club.

Master of ceremonies was former top flight football referee Trelford Mills, who officiated his last match on May 5 1990 - a game between Tottenham and Southampton in which Le Tissier scored.

“It was great to welcome him to Barnsley, and strange that the last time I’d seen him was in that game. Southampton lost 2-1 but Le Tissier scored for Southampton. There were some talented players in that game. Gascoigne, Lineker, Gary Mabbutt, Jimmy Case, Neil Ruddock.

“Matt was a great speaker and a great guy. He did an outstanding job. He was happy to pose for photographs and sign autographs, nothing was too much for him.

“It was a really great evening.”
