TWO fundraising groups have helped raise more than £600 for a charity which supports locals with mental health issues.
The ‘Grabby Grannies’ meet at the Heaven and Ale pub on Agnes Road in Kingstone at 1pm every Thursday and have held fundraisers from auctioning off pork pies to weekly events in a mission to initially raise £1,000 for the hospice.
They’ve smashed that target and Judy Holling, who helps run the group, is also a member of the Top O’Doderth Bottom Club.
They’re also avid fundraisers, who have raised thousands for local causes over recent years.
The two combined recently to raise more than £600 for NHS charity ‘Ey Up’ which supports learning disability and mental health services across the town.
Dave Cherry, an avid fundraiser who helped raise the money, told the Chronicle: “We recently had a fundraising event at our Top O’ Doderth Bottom Club at Dodworth Miners’ WMC and the Heaven and Ale pub two days later.
“We raised £650 in total in aid of the NHS charity ‘Ey Up’.
“The charity supports the work of South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, making a difference to mental health, community, wellbeing and learning disability services across Barnsley, Wakefield, Calderdale and Kirklees.
“It’s a charity that’s near to my heart.
“They have been brilliant to me and my family when we needed help.”
