BARNSLEY Hospital’s chaplaincy team held the annual Christmas carol service last week.
Held in the hospital’s chapel, lead chaplain Connie Ashton oversaw the proceedings, who laid a remembrance wreath with colleagues including hospital chaplain Marian Skiffington.
People also lit candles, the congregation sang Christmas carols such as ‘O Little Town of Bethlehem’, and had a moment’s silence.
Several colleagues including Emma Parkes and Jennifer Cunnah did readings and board members attended the service.
One patient attending was James Carter-Birkinshaw who lives in Cudworth.
James, a wheelchair-user, has had a tremendously difficult year with 12 hospital admissions.
He has various conditions including a collapsed lung and pulmonary fibrosis.
He said: “The hospital chapel has been my escape from the hubbub of the wards, especially evenings and nights.
“I am grateful we have this peaceful place.”
