HOME-GROWN Egyptologist Joann Fletcher will be in town this month to lead talks and tours around three exhibitions she has specially curated unlocking the hidden stories of Egypt’s captivating past.
Joann, who was born in Barnsley and is a professor in the department of archaeology at the University of York, has dedicated 30 years to studying Yorkshire’s Egyptian past.
She is a world authority on ancient Egypt, from its pharaohs to mummification, and has published nine books, made numerous television appearances, won a BAFTA and most recently wrote and presented ‘Immortal Egypt’ on BBC2 which saw her dubbed as Barnsley’s Cleopatra.
The first exhibition she has designed for her home town is ‘Gods’ Land in God’s County: Ancient Egypt in Yorkshire’ which goes on show at Experience Barnsley from September 20.
