WATER colourist Ashley Jackson was given the British Empire Medal for services to art in the Queen’s birthday honours list
The 76-year-old, feted as one of the country’s best landscape artists and an ambassador for Yorkshire, said the award was truly unexpected.
Although often described as ‘Barnsley-born’ Ashley was, in fact, born in Penang, Malaysia, where his parents lived a colonial lifestyle.
