A SCHOOLBOY organised an 11-mile sponsored walk ‘off his own back’ as he continues to do all he can to support charitable causes.
Horizon pupil Ethan Hadfield, 12, will be taking on the walk to Wakefield this Sunday to raise money for the Royal British Legion.
Starting at the Manx Arms on Sheffield Road, the walk will take almost four hours and it’s just one of the many charitable activities the youngster has been taking part in.
His dad, Nick, told the Chronicle: “To be honest he’s started doing a lot of fundraising off his own back.
“His brothers have autism so that started him wanting to do things for charity.
“Then he’s really got into it, he said he wanted to volunteer on the stall selling poppies - he did that, loved it and said he wanted to help raise more money for soldiers who’ve passed away.
“He contacted the Royal British Legion himself and sorted it out.”
In the long run, Ethan hopes to open his own charity shop, but for now is dragging his dad along for the cross-county walk.
“I do quite a lot of waking myself so I should be all right,” Nick added.
“He does football two or three times a week and has been going on a few walks so he’s feeling prepared.”
