A WOMAN who has lived in the same care home for almost 30 years has celebrated her 100th birthday.
Constance Hannah Howerd has lived at Park House Residential Home in Worsbrough Village since 1989, and she celebrated her milestone birthday on Monday with her friends and staff at the home.
Constance, formerly of Royston Hill, Hoyland, was educated at a girls’ high school and later the technical college and worked in the trading club office for the Barnsley Co-Operative, where people used to pay a shilling a week.
She was in the Women’s Land Army for two years, and later worked for the ambulance service until she was 60.
Her mother died when she was 15, and she has no family.
Constance celebrated with a three-course meal which she chose, and received a card from the Queen. She received six bouquets of flowers, and still enjoys gardening and walking in the gardens of the home.
