FORMER Barnsley FC head coach Daniel Stendel gave an 'emotional' farewell to fans as he shared a drink with them in a town centre bar.
Supporters greeted the German, who parted ways with the club this week, with chants of 'Daniel Stendel's red and white army' as he and assistant Chris Stern arrived at the Garrison at around 8.20pm this evening to share a drink with them.
"It's been a very emotional time for me," Stendel told the Chronicle as gathered fans hugged him, shook his hand and took photographs.
"What a lot of people have said to me is this - 'once a Red, always a Red'."
Anticipation had been building since the announcement yesterday, with rumours coming to a head this morning that Stendel - who guided Barnsley to promotion in his first season in England - would appear at the bar to give fans a chance to thank him.
Stendel endeared himself to supporters in his time with Barnsley, and is also no stranger to the Garrison - having previously shared a drink with fans when his side won promotion to the Championship in April.
