A YOUNG boy was left with his eye glued shut for almost a week after a trainee nurse allowed glue to get into his eye while he was being treated for a head wound.

Clayton Cross, six, was treated by a trainee nurse, who was supposedly being supervised at the time, after falling in the playground and gashing his head.

Nurses decided to glue the cut together rather than stitch it up but the glue somehow ended up in Clayton's eye, gluing it shut.

Heather Mcnair, director of nursing and quality at Barnsley Hospital, said: "We are taking the matter very seriously and are progressing concerns made about the care Clayton received in the Emergency Department. We will be in contact with Mrs Sheard once again when the investigation is complete."
