BARNSLEY'S own apple juice is being produced in Cawthorne by a group of young people.

Greenworks Barnsley, a group of local people with learning difficulties, has produced its own apple juice from regional produce.

Project leader Jonathan Senior, who runs Greenworks with brother Julian said: "In the past, all the apples we have grown on the orchards we have given out to day centres and Mencap, but this year one of the trainees suggested we create our own apple juice.

"We made just under 100 bottles and some are now on sale in the Crown and Anchor pub at Barugh Green."

The apple juice has been made from apples which won first prize in the dessert and colouring categories at the Penistone show. They were grown on orchards at the farm where Greenworks is based in Cawthorne.

All the money made goes back to the trainees, towards their holidays and activities.
