THREE more men have been jailed for their role in the large-scale violence that took place in Manvers two months ago.

Gareth Lunn was sentenced to three years behind bars for his role in the riots outside Holiday Inn Express, where he was captured on body-worn camera swinging a bin at a police officer before picking up a missile and tossing it at the cordon.

The 41-year-old, from Billingley View, Bolton-upon-Dearne, pleaded guilty to violent disorder at Barnsley Magistrates’ Court on August 28 and was sentenced on Monday.

He will be joined by Michael Woods, who was seen shouting abuse at officers and threatening that a nearby dog would ‘get’ them - during the disorder he also threw a shopping trolley at the police.

After an image of him was circulated by police, the 64-year-old, of Ainsdale Avenue, Goldthorpe, handed himself into a station though remained remorseless, denying any wrongdoing and after being charged said ‘don’t judge a book by its cover’.

Nevertheless he pleaded guilty at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court on August 19 and has been jailed for two years.

Scott Kendall, 24, received the same sentence after he was seen launching missiles at a line of police who were attempting to protect the hotel and its occupants.

Kendall, of Sandymount Road, Wath-upon-Dearne, was identified after numerous members of the public recognised him in a police appeal.

In questioning he simply answered no comment, however pleaded guilty to violent disorder on August 24 and was sentenced on Monday.
