EVERYTHING ‘clicked’ for a young cricket club whose players proudly finished their latest season unbeaten.

The Darfield Cricket Clubs under-15s team soared this year, with the countless hours of training each player puts in paying off as they walked away with an unblemished record.

However, the most excited person involved may just be coach Kris Jowett, who has been working with some of these youngsters for years now.

The 43-year-old told the Chronicle: “It feels really good to be honest.

“A lot of these lads have been with the club for a number of years, so watching them this last six months has been incredible.

“They’ve gone from strength to strength so I feel really proud of them.

“Lots of others are involved, and there are other coaches who’ve helped them with all sorts of different things.

“They’ve brought it all together this season and it’s just clicked.”

Following the final victory, the club enjoyed a spontaneous celebration to congratulate everyone involved with bringing together this amazing result.

“We already knew we’d won the league before the last game,” Kris added.

“So when we won that last game we had a little celebration and got the kids some non-alcoholic champagne.

“But it was great for the parents as well - we couldn’t do it without their help, because it can all be so expensive.”

The club has now been put forward for this year’s Proud of Barnsley, adding to their list of achievements.

“I think it’s massive, not just for us but for the whole club.

“We are from a deprived area and we’re always trying to do stuff for the community as well.

“So to get recognition is good and it’s great for the lads to know that they’re being noticed for what they do.”
