A RETIRED army staff sergeant celebrated her 103rd birthday this week with a hand-picked three-course meal.
Doris Stoner reached the monumental age on Monday, with staff at Park House Residential Home in Worsbrough pulling out all the stops to make the day special.
Doris - who served in the army in her younger years - got a chance to pick out a three-course meal for her and her fellow residents to enjoy and got taken out to find the perfect outfit for the event.
Deputy manager of the home, Leanne Anderson, told the Chronicle: “She chose to have a quieter day at home.
“We wanted her to be able to choose her own outfit so staff took her into town last Friday and she got to pick something out.
“I think on the day she was a bit overwhelmed - children from St John’s drew her a picture and made her a card and she sat and looked at it for ages.”
