BARNSLEY folk Queen Kate Rusby has been honoured with a national award alongside famous names such as Bob Geldof and Alison Moyet.

Announcing the news online, Kate, of Cawthorne, wrote: "I'm very, very honoured to announce that I've been chosen as one of the recipients this year for BASCAs (The British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors) Gold Badge Awards, alongside others such as Bob Geldof and Alison Moyet.

"Goodness me I'm only a little lass from Barnsley."

Kate said she was 'utterly delighted' to be receiving the award and honoured to be recognised in such distinguished company as the other recipients this year and in previous years.

She will be presented with the award in a ceremony at The Savoy in London next month.
