SHEFFIELD Wednesday fan Joanne Baldwin put football rivalries aside as she got engaged to lifelong Reds fan Chris Poskitt at Oakwell last weekend.
The pair, who met while working for Barnsley Council, both drive minibuses for a living and Joanne said she was shocked when he got down on one knee.
An announcement was made on the Oakwell tannoy but Joanne, who is profoundly deaf, admits she had no idea what was going on.
She told the Chronicle: “I used to walk past Chris and always said good morning.
“After the Christmas holidays in 2022 I asked him if he’d had a good Christmas but he said he was lonely.
“I said I was too and that we should go for a coffee - our first date was ten-pin bowling.”
Chris, who has supported Barnsley for the last 60 years, organised the engagement with the club himself - and Joanne admits she was shocked during the proposal which happened at half-time during the Reds’ 1-1 draw against Stockport County on Saturday.
“I’m a Sheffield Wednesday fan and Chris is a massive Barnsley fan - he has been for 60 years,” she added.
“I was absolutely in shock.
“Because I’m profoundly deaf I didn’t hear what said over the tannoy so I asked Chris what had been said.
“He turned to me and said ‘will you be my wife?’
“As you can see Chris was a very happy man - he has got the woman of his dreams.”
