RESIDENTS on one Hemingfield street are quite literally being kept in the dark due to a broken street light.
The light, on Garden Grove, was reported to Barnsley Council earlier this summer - but to date nothing has been done to fix it.
This has angered locals, including David Doughty who has raised his concerns with the council on a number of occasions.
He said: “I am very disappointed in Barnsley Council.
“I rang the street lighting team up and the end of August and I was told that it would take them between ten and 20 days to come out and fix it.
“It feels like Hemingfield is a forgotten village.
“Something needs to be done because people are unable to see outside when it’s dark at night.
“Someone could break their neck - it’s very dangerous.”
Coun James Higginbottom, cabinet spokesperson for environment and highways, said: “The fault to the street light was reported to our highways team for investigation, which found that necessary repairs were required from the Northern Power Grid.
“We are continuing to work with the Northern Power Grid to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.”
