A woman jailed following a murder at her home has died just three months into her sentence.

Kerry Musgrave, 31, was sentenced to 18 months for perverting the course of justice in relation to the murder of Shane Beadling at her home last July, which she attempted to cover up.

But she had died while in custody in hospital on Thursday after being taken there from New Hall Prison in Wakefield.

An inquest was opened and adjourned in Leeds yesterday and a Prison Service spokesman said it would also conduct its own investigation into the death.

He said: "Kerry Musgrave died at an outside hospital on March14. The cause has yet to be established. As with all deaths in custody, the independent Prisons and Probation Ombudsman will conduct an investigation."
