PENISTONE and Stocksbridge MP Marie Tidball has vowed to support support staff at locals schools - and is hoping that the reinstatement of a governing body will do that.

Ms Tidball said that she knows how important staff are at schools across the borough and her own experiences have helped shape her views today.

The School Support Staff Negotiating Body (SSSNB) is set to be reinstated - and Ms Tidball gave a speech in Parliament in favour of their work.

She said: “I missed three years of school as a child because of the surgeries I needed.

“Incredible classroom teaching assistants helped me to build my confidence and learn to mix with other children again when I returned - they made education and learning an escape, a way to express myself, a way to overcome people’s assumptions about my disability and to feel free.

“So, it was wonderful to make a speech in favour of the reinstatement of the School Support Staff Negotiating Body (SSSNB) in England, as part of my work on the Employment Rights Bill Committee, bringing in the biggest upgrade to worker’s rights in a generation.

“This will be key to tackling long-standing public policy failures that have ignored the voices of this important group of workers.”
