The Metrodome's water park Calypso Cove is proving a big splash with fun lovers from throughout the region.
The water park has gone down a storm with swimmers since it opened in February last year.
But it is not just Barnsley water fans that love the attraction- people from all over the region have been trying it out.
During the Easter holidays last year, more than 21,700 visitors hit the water, more than 7, 000 more visitors than the previous year.
The latest figures from the recent half term prove the Metrodome is a popular place to visit from the surrounding areas and beyond.
Barnsley schools had their half term holidays a week before the surrounding areas, with a total of 6,770 visitors during the Barnsley half term week.
But once all Barnsley schoolchildren were back in the classroom, youngsters from throughout the region headed for the Metrodome.
The number of visitors that second week was 12,131, a 79 per cent increase, showing Calypso Cove draws in families from areas outside Barnsley.
Calypso Cove took just over five months in the making with the addition of three flumes and the ‘Skull Falls’ feature, a nine metre high skull that acts as a waterfall into one of the pools.
Manager, Joni Millthorpe said: “It is wonderful to see that the Metrodome attracts visitors from outside of the Barnsley area.
"Calypso Cove has proved a extremely popular addition to the leisure centre.
"Not only is this great for the Metrodome but also for Barnsley as a town. With people coming from surrounding areas, this also brings a secondary spend into the Barnsley community”
Calypso Cove has received more than 314,000 visitors it was opened.
