PENISTONE Footpath Runner Graihagh Turner had a successful time in her first senior fell race as she took on the Ilkley Moor Fell Race.
After a challenging eight kilometre race featuring steep ascents and descents across Ilkley’s moorland, teenager Graihagh finished as fourth woman overall. The Penistone girl, who has competed for Great Britain at youth level, was first under 19 woman in a time of 50-30.
Penistone’s Harriet Drouin and Mark Crossley completed the 5 Res’s Trail Run which is a 25-kilometre run that takes in the reservoirs of Dovestones before the infamous boulder field before Rimmons Clough. Mark finished in 41st place in 3-21 closely followed by Harriet in 47th place with 3-24.
A strong contingent of Barnsley club runners headed to the North Lincolnshire 10k and half marathon road running events.
In the 10k race, Barnsley AC’s Naomi Drakeford was second woman overall in 35-39. Wayne Singleton finished as second over40 man in a PB of 34-25.
Lennon Hughes also ran a PB of 36-29 and finished as third under20 man.
Lydia Race was second over40 woman in a time of 39-22.
Penistone’s Martin Ball took first place in the men’s over50 age category which had a field of 44 runners, with 36-44.
Seven Penistone runners took on the half marathon distance and several were rewarded with personal bests.
First back for the club was Suzanne McGill in a time of 1-27-39 which gave her second place in the women’s over45 age category. First man back was Robin Clough who improved his previous year’s time by more than ten minutes, finishing in a time of 1-32-50. Simon Lovidge achieved a personal best of 1-35-17.
Olivia Clough completed her first ever half marathon in a time of 2-05-34.
Barnsley AC’s Alan Nutton set a PB and ran under 80 minutes for the first time with 1-19-34 while Gemma Thickett took 30 seconds off her best in 1-35-21.
Helen Morgan finished as second over55 woman in a time of 1-32-45.
Five Barnsley Harriers recorded PBs. Deborah Wilson took four and half minutes off of her previous best which she set at last year’s Great North Run, while Catherine Stone and Kay Conway both knocked more than five minutes off their previous best times for the distance.
Barnsley AC’s Keith Littlewood set a new course PB at the No Walk in the Park 5k. His time of 18-28 saw him finish as first over55 man.
Whilst away in the RAF, Barnsley AC’s Morgan Thompson equalled his half marathon PB of 72-51.
