SOME of Barnsley Football Club’s greatest legends came together earlier this month to help raise £7,000 for the hospice.
Kev Johnson, of Park Road, is a Rotherham United fan and has held a number of fundraising events for Rotherham Hospice - raising more than £40,000 in the process.
But at the end of August, Kev decided he wanted to do something for his home town and Barnsley Hospice and subsequently put on a Legends Night at the Metrodome.
Ex-Reds including Danny Wilson, Allan Clarke, Barry Murphy, Adam Hammill, Jon Parkin and Gerry Taggart took part in a Q and A session with fans and a staggering £10,411 was raised for the hospice.
But on February 13 Kev decided he wanted to go one better, and legend Mick McCarthy - alongside Nicky Eaden, Andy Liddell and Adie Moses - took to the stage at the Metrodome.
Kev told the Chronicle: “It was brilliant.
“I think that we excelled with the legends that we brought in and they’re all great, but to get Mick was extra special.
“It was an absolutely brilliant night.”
Kev had always wanted the second Barnsley-themed event to be bigger than the last - and he admits he’s now got his work cut out with his next event.
And he’s hosting a Sheffield United Legends Night a week today involving two ex-Reds - Chris Morgan and Rob Kozluk.
“With all the events we’ve raised £66,000 now.
“I’ve got the Sheffield United one next week which will be a great night.
“We’re looking to do another Barnsley one towards the end of the year, probably around Christmas.
“I’ve got my work cut out with that but I’ve got ideas about who I want to get.”
