SMITHIES lad Ethan Hadfield may only be 13 years old but he’s got big dreams - and he’s already making them come true after setting up a charitable organisation in his late brother’s name.

The 13-year-old is quite shy according to his dad, Nick, but he’s been coming out of his shell in recent weeks after starting his own podcast.

But he’s got dreams to create a charity called Declan’s Dream in honour of his brother who died at birth.

Nick told the Chronicle: “He’s wanting to open up a charity shop where he’d be able to help out all sorts of people.

“He wants to be able to help kids with autism, people who are struggling with their mental health, kids who were born with defects.

“He’s currently raising money to try and do what he can - he’s set up an Ebay and Vinted account where he’s auctioning things off.

“Before we had Ethan me and his mum had a son who was born with defects, he died at birth.

“His two brothers also have autism.

“The stuff that he’s doing is for them.”

Ethan said it would make him ‘so proud’ if he was able to do something that would help put a smile on other people’s faces.

He said: “I’m currently doing a lot of charity work for various good causes and have decided to start my own charity called Declan’s Dream.

“I chose that name as a tribute to my brother who died at birth due to a lot of problems with his organs and body.

“I have chosen these causes as they are very close to me and mean a lot.

“I have two brothers with autism and see a lot of kids struggle with mental health problems.

“I will be so proud and honoured to be able to give something back to them - even if it just to see them smile.

“If I can help them and their life in any way they it will be worthwhile.”

Although Ethan doesn’t have his own charity shop just yet, he is taking donations at his drop-off point in the town centre at 36-42 Wellington Street.

And after setting up his own podcast, he’ll be hoping some of the big names he’s interviewed will be able to help out too.

Nick added: “He’s been interviewing ex-Barnsley footballers like Hugo Colace.

“He’s had an interview with Simeon Gholam, an editor at Sky Sports.

“And he’s doing one with Callum Simpson too.

“He’s wanting to get Callum involved with his fundraising too.

“He’s doing so much and it’s all off his own back.

“I’m so proud of him.”
