A MONK Bretton teenager bagged himself the opportunity of a lifetime as he performed on stage in front of thousands of people at a Snow Patrol gig.

Ash Zach Hopkinson, 17, has been playing the guitar since he was 13 years old.

He began writing songs a year later and is currently a part of local band ‘Restless Residents’ - while his solo work is available on Spotify under ‘Shoelace’.

His favourite band is Snow Patrol and alongside his mum, Joanne, he went to see them perform at Connexin Live in Hull last Wednesday.

Ash brought a sign asking if he would be able to play ‘Chasing Cars’ on stage with the band - and to his surprise lead singer Gary Lightbody said yes.

Joanne told the Chronicle: “We didn’t think that there’d be a chance to do it because he did something similar when he went to see The Reytons and they said no.

“But Gary said yes.”

The pair managed to get right to the front of the stage by queuing beforehand - but Joanne says her son wasn’t fazed by the experience, despite performing in front of thousands of people.

“We’re still buzzing about it,” she said.

“There were nearly 4,000 people there.

“But he wasn’t bothered - he was really confident.”
