DEARNE and District won 3-0 at home to lowly Yorkshire Amateur in NCEL Division One, ending a five-game winless run since November.

Tommy Needham scored twice in the first half then Jamie Austin added a third.

Dearne boss Zeph Thomas said: “It was good to get back to winning ways.

“It’s been a while and we’ve had a dip in form.

“It was nice to win, with a clean sheet and three goals.

“Most teams have a dip at some point in the season.

“All our attacking players were off it at the same time, and we made some mistakes at the back.

“I thought we deserved a few more points than we got with our performances.

“Hopefully we’re over it and now the confidence is back.”

Dearne are now seventh, three points away from the top five play-off places.

Thomas said: “We have loads still to play for.

“We need to get on a run. If we win our games in hand, which is a big ask, we go back into the play-offs.

“The club has had a lot of success so people from the outside think we should be up there. But some of these lads haven’t played at this level before.

“We’re in a good place and, if we get on good form near the end, we will hopefully sneak in the play-offs then it’s a lottery.”

Wombwell Town collected six points from two games this week.

They are third with 58 points from 27 games – 13 points off the leaders Horbury, who have played three extra games, and eight clear in the top five play-off places.

They now host Nostell MW on Friday then Horbury on Tuesday.

Town won 2-1 at Maltby Main on Saturday.

Jordan Kershaw’s early strike was cancelled out before half-time then he won it in injury-time.

They then won 1-0 at lowly Appleby Frodingham on Tuesday.

Regan Kelly netted an 88th-minute winner.

It was a third straight victory for Town while they are unbeaten away in the league this season in 13 games.

Worsbrough Bridge won 2-1 at home to relegation-battlers Louth Town on Saturday.

All the goals were in the first 13 minutes with Louth taking the lead then Connor Glavin scoring a penalty and Harry Spooner the eventual winner.

They have won the last three and lost one in 19 so are sixth, two points off the play-offs, with 50 points from 28 games.

Athersley Rec’s game was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.
