BARNSLEY under 21s’ run in the Sheffield Senior Cup ended at the quarter-final stage at AFC Emley on Wednesday evening.

The young Reds entered the tournament for the first time this season to gain experience and had already won at Athersley Rec on penalties and 5-1 at Shelley in previous rounds.

Emmaisa Nzondo put Barnsley in front then, after the Northern Premier League hosts made it 1-1 just after half-time, he restored the lead with his second goal of the night.

But Emley scored on 65 and 73 minutes to reach the last four.

Both the last two goals were from set pieces as the non-league side took advantage of their young visitors’ inexperience.

Wombwell Town have been reinstated into the Sheffield Senior Cup after Maltby Main, who beat them, were found to have fielded an ineligible player. They are due to host Stocksbridge in the quarter-final on February 18.
