DAVIS Keillor-Dunn says he has cheekily mentioned to Adam Phillips that he has taken over as Barnsley’s top-scorer this season, but believes they will both score plenty of vital goals in the promotion run-in.
The 27-year-old forward has ten goals this season, after netting five times in his last six games.
He told the Chronicle: “I just have to keep going and I will never be satisfied until the end of the season when we’ll try to do some great things.
“I am happy with the form at the minute but I can’t rest on my laurels, I have got to keep going and keep pushing.”
Keillor-Dunn has overtaken midfielder Phillips as the Reds’ top-scorer.
“I always speak to Phillo about that. There is a bit of banter.
“But I said to him ‘look, we’ve both just got to keep chipping in with goals for the team.’
“He’s set me up a couple of times, I try to set him up.
“You have got to have players in the team who can come up with big moments.
“We just want to keep scoring and winning games.”
Most of Keillor-Dunn’s goals have been clinical finishes into the corners of the net from the edge of the box.
“Players go through little bits of form like that. The good players keep it up consistently.
“I understand I might go a couple of games without scoring, but I go into every game trying to score two or three.
“I am not really happy with one goal, I keep saying that, I always want more.
“I will keep working tirelessly to try to get as many as I can and to help the team as much as I can.”
He added: “I don’t think I am getting a lot of chances in games.
“The boys are playing well, I have been getting on the end of things and chipping in with the odd goal.
“I drive in with Corey (O’Keeffe) and he asked me if I go into games thinking I will score.
“I go in thinking that I will get a chance and I just don’t want to miss.”
Barnsley now visit Bristol Rovers who won at Oakwell in the FA Cup on penalties in November despite the Reds having 30 shots.
“It was just their day. It just wouldn’t go in for us.
“They were defending the goal and we ended up losing on penalties which was dead unlucky.
“It will be nice to get one back on them and make it 2-1 to us (Barnsley won the league meeting in September).
“We’re looking forward and want to get going now.”
