A YOUNG girl who beat cancer and received the all-clear just weeks before Christmas is now back at school and making the most of her life after two gruelling years of treatment.
Indie Violet Senior, ten, from Athersley North, was diagnosed with leukaemia in October 2022 and in the years since has since been undergoing chemotherapy treatment.
Her mum, Siobhan, described the experience as ‘horrific’ as she travelled to and from the hospital regularly, watching her daughter bravely tackle the devastating illness.
Thankfully, last month she received the all clear from doctors and got the best Christmas present she could’ve dreamed of - getting to ring the bell at Sheffield Children’s Hospital.
Since then she has started going to school full-time at Mapplewell Primary and spending plenty of time with her new Pomeranian puppy.
Her mum told the Chronicle: “Our Christmas was fantastic.
“Now she’s started going back to school full time which is really good.
“She’s had nearly two years without a proper education so this has been really, really good for her.
“Since she started there things have been going really well - the school’s great and they’re offering lots of support.
“She’s pretty much back to being a normal child now.”
For her bravery in the face of such a terrifying few years of tests and treatment, Indie is a perfect candidate for the Young Conqueror award at this year’s Young Champions.
The nomination adds to what have been months chock-full of good news.
“She’ll love this, she’ll be over the moon if she gets an award,” Siobhan added.
“She really deserves it after everything she’s been through.
“Even though she’s been so poorly, every day she’s always got a smile on her face.
“She’s amazing and I’m not just saying that because I’m her mum.”
