Darrell Clarke ‘gets’ the calls to bring in new forwards after the weekend defeat and insists: 'I know where we need to strengthen.'

The Reds had 25 shots in their 3-1 loss at Bristol Rovers on Saturday, missing a series of clear-cut chances.

It is thought that the Reds could potentially make a signing this week but it is not clear if it will be a striker, although that is one of the key positions they are hoping to recruit in during the January transfer window.

When put to him that the reaction to the weekend defeat from many fans was that the club needs a new striker, Clarke told the Chronicle: “I get it.

“We create loads of chances to win games. The hardest thing is putting the ball in the back of the net.

“We’ve done it well recently, we’re one of the highest scorers in the league, but we need to convert more of our opportunities in front of goal.

“It’s something we will hopefully do in the window. I know where I want to strengthen and we want to finish more of our chances.

“It’s not just that area, everything is about how you get the ball into the final third to create chances for your centre forwards but we need to be more clinical. We will keep working with the strikers we have at the club.”
