WORLD-RENOWNED Barnsley artist Patrick Murphy has unveiled his latest work at an international sculpture exhibition in China.
Murphy, who works from his studio based in the town centre, has already seen his work shown worldwide - and is the sculptor of the Kes statue in Hoyland Common.
His latest work, titled ‘Belonging’, is featured at the 2024 Shanghai Jing’an International Sculpture Exhibition (JISP), taking place until December 31.
Murphy’s work will be exhibited alongside 34 sculptures from international artists.
He said his work centres on the notion of cultural and individual belonging within an urban space, has evolved for this Shanghai showcase, reflecting on the complexities of modern city life and the connections between people and their environments.
He added: “This ongoing series of bird sculptures continues my exploration of how we exist within our surroundings and what belonging truly means in ever-evolving cities.
“It’s wonderful to be able to show my work on the global stage, I’m grateful to have had my sculptures installed in countries such as France, Canada, Belgium, the United Arab Emirates, USA and now China.
“It’s also great that I now have pieces of sculpture in my home town of Barnsley for people to see.”
