A round-up of Barnsley FC stories.

DEPLETED REDS SQUAD AHEAD OF DEVON TRIP

Barnsley’s squad is depleted due to injuries and suspensions going into Saturday’s game at Exeter City.

Adam Phillips is suspended after being sent off against Birmingham on Saturday while Marc Roberts came off injured, after Josh Earl and Fabio Jalo both missed the match through injury. The club also announced that forward Stephen Humphrys had come off with ‘a knock’.

The extent of the injuries is not clear yet but some of those players could miss the trip to Devon.

“There’s loads of blows,” said head coach Darrell Clarke.

“We’ve got kicks and nasties everywhere. Robbo has been outstanding - injured. Fabio - injured in training. Josh Earl is in the team - injured.

“Sometimes you go through these stages as a manager where these things happen.”

CLARKE ‘ALREADY KNOWS’ WHICH PLAYERS CAN TAKE CLUB FORWARD

Darrell Clarke says he is constantly judging his Barnsley squad and already knows which ones will be part of his plans going forward.

The promotion-chasing Reds have slipped four points off the top six after a six-game winless run.

Head coach Clarke said: “I’m always judging players. I already know if I’m honest, deep down I know, and with that gives players the opportunity to sometimes change your mind.

“One or two players can talk the talk but are they walking the walk? When I come to that I’m ruthless.

“I don’t think - and this isn’t me being big-headed - I’ve released or got rid of a player that’s bit me on the backside.

“That tells me when I’ve made a decision after four or five months with working with players that I know what’s required to do what we need to do.”

WOMEN FIVE POINTS CLEAR OF DROP AFTER WIN

Barnsley FC Women won 4-1 at AFC Fylde and are unbeaten in four, with two wins and two draws.

They are now sixth in National League Division One North with 14 points from 12 games, five points clear of the relegation zone and seven off the top five.

Fylde were bottom of the league having lost their previous four games. Jodie Gregory, Lauryn Wilcock and Sharone Buckle put the Reds 3-0 up at half-time then, after the hosts pulled one back late on, Gregory netted again.

Coach Jess Horsley said: “It was really good. We pressed really well which created two of the goals. In front of goal we were really confident. We had the wind in our favour after winning the toss in the first half and could have scored a lot more but to be 3-0 up was brilliant. They got one back but then Jodie pressed their defence, won the ball and slotted home, so it was game done.”

U21S LOSE BUT U18S MAKE QUARTER-FINAL

Barnsley under 21s lost 2-1 at Hull City on Tuesday.

The Reds had a man sent off in the first half, with Vimal Yoganathan getting their goal. They are now winless in six.

The under 21s are due to host Sheffield Wednesday from 2pm next Tuesday on the Oakwell showcase pitch.

Meanwhile, Barnsley under 18s won 3-2 at Hull City in the PDL Cup on Saturday.

The scorers were Chrysolite Ogbu, Caleb Daniels and Tom Senior.

The young Reds won their group and are now in the quarter-finals.

They are due to visit Burnley on Saturday in the league.

ONE LOANEE IN ACTION

Barnsley loanee Jack Shepherd played for Bradford City in a 1-1 draw Crewe in League Two.

Kacper Lopata has not been playing for Ross County due to injury.

Most of the other games were called off due to poor weather.
