FOLLOWING the widespread success of a street art project in Goldthorpe, the council are now funding further artwork across the village.
In August, prior to the Dearne Community Arts Festival, artist Jayde Marie Bell - known professionally as Eye Violet - decorated the normally bleak, grey shop shutters in the village with her unique designs.
Her work received acclaim from people across the village, which has resulted in additional funding being provided for her to continue decorating the area.
She told the Chronicle: “They’ve really embraced it - it’s a bit overwhelming to be honest.
“It started off with five shop shutters, but now we’ve got funding for underpasses in Goldthorpe and Thurnscoe.
“There’s maybe 25 shops requesting to have their shutters painted - before we started we struggled to get people to consent so there’s been a real change of view now that they’ve been able to see it.
“It’s rewarding and all happening at once.”
Jayde is set to paint a new mural on an underpass at Phoenix Park and is hoping to get the community involved through a variety of workshops.
“We’ll be doing them with different community groups,” she added.
“So that will include the local schools and churches, different age groups and SEN (special education needs) groups.
“There’s a general idea of making a giant phoenix and then we’ve got plans of using local people’s designs for different parts.”
