A BARNSLEY kickboxer is gearing up for the fight of his life today in London.

Mareks ‘Dreamkiller’ Pelcis moved to Barnsley from Latvia at age 14 and has been training at The Combat Academy, in Barugh Green, ever since.

He was originally set to face off against Amansio Paraschiv, who withdrew due to scheduling issues.

Now, he is due to fight Daniel Vortiah, the UK’s number two kickboxer, for the KGP super welterweight title.

The fight will take place at the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre.

To qualify for the momentous event, Mareks won a series of eliminators.

He won the Sheffield KGP intercontinental title eliminator in 2022.

He successfully defended his title in Portugal the following year, winning again in Sheffield to secure his place to fight Vortiah.

Most recently, he won the Kings of Combat title in June at the Metrodome.

When asked about his upcoming fight, Mareks said: “I’ve had some hard sessions, I am focused on my training.

“I’m a bit sad because I wanted to fight Amansio, but Voriah is tough.

“It’ll be a good challenge.”

Mick Crossland, owner of The Combat Academy, added: “The academy was created to allow young athletes to fulfil their potential.

“Mareks’ fight is a dream come true - the future holds big things for him.”
