BARNSLEY South MP Stephanie Peacock has urged concerned locals to get checked out if they are worried about cancer.
Ms Peacock spoke to Cancer Research UK about the latest diagnosis figures across the UK and about the work they have been doing to ensure that more people are able to survive cancer.
Current statistics show that only 50 per cent of people diagnosed with cancer survive for ten years or more following their diagnosis.
Representatives from the charity spoke to the MP about how cancers can be prevented and treated.
Stephanie said: “I was pleased to meet with Cancer Research UK recently.
“They do excellent work all year round to ensure that as many people as possible survive cancer.
“Almost 40 per cent of cancer cases in the UK are preventable and Cancer Research UK has some excellent information available about the steps you can take to reduce your risk of developing cancer.
“Early diagnosis is vital to survival, so if you notice anything unusual, please make sure you visit your GP as soon as possible.” (
