A round-up of Barnsley FC stories coming out of the weekend.

DUFF: I PROBABLY DESERVE STICK

MICHAEL Duff admits he ‘probably the deserves’ the reaction he got from Barnsley fans at the weekend.

Duff, who led the Reds to last year’s League One play-off final defeat before moving to Swansea City that summer, is now in charge of Huddersfield Town who beat visitors Barnsley 2-0 in the league on Saturday when the away end sang some foul-mouthed songs in his direction.

Duff said: “When you stand in front of 20,000 people, I am just pleased I wasn’t getting booed by all four sides of the ground because the win and performance was good.

“I have got no issue with the Barnsley supporters at all. I made a mistake. I had a great 12 months there and they are fully entitled to give me a bit of stick. I probably deserve it in the end.”

BARNSLEY FC WOMEN GET FIRST FOURTH TIER WIN

Barnsley FC women gained their first victory at National League Division One North level on Sunday in their sixth game as they won 3-0 at home to Stockport County.

The Reds, who are in the fourth tier after back-to-back promotions, are now ninth in the 12-team league with six points from as many games.

Coach Jess Horsley said: “It’s massive for us and will give the girls a lot of confidence. We know we can compete with a lot of teams in this league.

“Looking at the table and points, it looks like not the best start.

“If somebody had asked me from first six would you take a win, three draws and two losses I would have said ‘yeah’.

“We have had some hard games. Hopefully know we can bounce with this win and carry on."

Playing on the main Oakwell pitch, Melissa Turton-Burrell had the Reds in front at the break then Freya Walton and Emily Pierrepont netted from long range in the second half.

YOUNG TRIO CALLED UP

Barnsley youngsters Fabio Jalo, Vimal Yoganathan and Josiah Dyer have all received international call-ups.

Forward Jalo is in the Portugal under 20s squad for their games against Turkey in Istanbul on Thursday then at home to Italy on Monday.

Midfielder Yoganathan is in the Wales under 19s squad for their two away friendlies against Italy.

Striker Dyer is in the Montserrat squad for their Nations League games against Bonaire at home and away.

They are all expected to miss Tuesday’s EFL Trophy game

FA CUP DRAW ON MONDAY

BARNSLEY are set to find out their opponents in the first round of this season’s FA Cup next week.

The final qualifying round for non-league sides is due to take place over the coming weekend, with the winners joining League One and League Two clubs in the first round.

The draw is due to take place on Monday evening from 7pm, live on BBC One.

Barnsley had a harrowing experience in the first round last year against Horsham, who are in the final qualifying round again.

The Reds were held 3-3 at home to the seventh-tier club then won 3-0 in the replay in Sussex but were thrown out of the competition for playing Aiden Marsh who was ineligible as he had been on loan to York City when the first game was played.

TWO 2-0 WINS FOR YOUTH TEAMS

Barnsley under 18s won 2-0 at home to Bradford City on Saturday.

The young Reds are now due to visit Wigan Athletic this coming Saturday.

Barnsley under 21s also won 2-0 at home to Crewe Alexandra on Friday. Ziggy Kozluk and Luke Alker scored.
