LOCALS are being encouraged to take part in a community litter pick in Wombwell next week.

The South Area Council’s environmental caretaker team will host the event on Blythe Street on Tuesday at 9am.

Couns Brenda Eastwood, Robert Frost and James Higginbottom - who all represent the area - told the Chronicle their aim is to make Wombwell an even better place for locals to live.

They said: “We are committed to making Wombwell a clean, green and safe place for all our residents to enjoy and we work closely with volunteers, community groups and our South Area environmental caretaker team to make that a reality.

“We are pleased to announce that we will be running a ‘community clean up’ event next Tuesday in the Blythe Street area which will focus on tackling litter, fly-tipping and working with residents to make sure the estate is looking its best.

“Volunteers are very welcome to join us, meeting at 9am at the Cemetery Road end of the street.”
