THE next steps to transform the Alhambra Shopping Centre into a town centre health hub will be discussed by councillors later this month.
The Health on the High Street initiative could bring more than 100,000 visits a year to the shopping centre instead of Barnsley Hospital.
Although the Alhambra’s retail element will remain on the ground level, the Chronicle understands changes to its interior layout will be made after an agreement was struck for the hospital’s outpatient services to occupy the shopping centre’s first floor.
Cabinet members will discuss further necessary approvals and recommendations to push forward the development of the Alhambra site on September 18.
It’s anticipated the meeting will be held behind closed doors.
