A BARNSLEY men’s club has been named the best in the borough for the EIGHTH time.

Wortley Men’s Club was named as the CAMRA Regional Club of the Year yet again earlier this month, much to the delight of all those involved.

This year the club has held various charity events in support of Barnsley Hospice raising over £5,000 in total.

This culminated in its annual veer festival from which a cheque was presented to representatives from Barnsley Hospice for £2,500.

Teresa Pickering, stewardess at the club, told the Chronicle: “Everyone connected with the club and involved with Barnsley CAMRA are overjoyed that we have been awarded CAMRA Regional Club of the Year for the eight time and are very proud to have been chosen to represent Yorkshire in the next round of judging.

“We have a fantastic community based club with almost 700 members from all walks of life and various parts of the country, guests and visitors are always made to feel welcome from staff and customers alike.”

CAMRA’s Yorkshire regional Ddirector, Kevin Keaveny, said: “This eighth win shows the club’scontinued commitment to high standards.

“It also shows that a club in a village can thrive if the management offer the members the products, facilities, and level of service that they require.”
