BARNSLEY Council has launched its Big Bike Recycle Scheme to get more residents moving on two wheels this summer.

The Barnsley Bike Works team have have been taking their mobile hub offer around the borough since launching last month.

Any bikes that are donated to the team will be refurbished and put back into the community.

If a bike is beyond repair, it will be broken down and any parts reused to refurbish other donations.

Coun James Higginbottom, cabinet spokesperson for environment and highways, said: “With the Olympics taking place over the past fortnight and preparations for Barnsley hosting the Tour of Britain race well underway, cycling is definitely on the brain so it’s the perfect time for us to launch the Big Bike Recycle Scheme.

“If you have an old bike in the shed that you no longer need or want but has some life left in it, please consider donating it to Barnsley Bike Works as it could make a huge difference to someone else.”

You can drop the bike off at Barnsley Interchange on weekdays between 8.30am and 4.30pm.
