BARNSLEY Woolley Miners’ Shaw Lane ground hosted Yorkshire 2nd XI this week.

The white rose county were playing Lancashire in two Twenty20 friendlies on Tuesday.

South African international Donovan Ferreira, Yorkshire’s overseas player for the Twenty20 Blast, hit 114 off 51 balls in the first game which Yorkshire won, before losing the second match.

Teenager Owen Smith, who has come through the youth system at Shaw Lane, opened the batting for Yorkshire and made scores of 30 then 12. Ben Cliff, who also plays for Cawthorne, captained Yorkshire.

Rocky Flintoff, the son of former England captain Andrew, was playing for Lancashire.

Yorkshire under 18s are due to play at Shaw Lane on July 16 against Lancashire again.

Barnsley Woolley cricket chair Jason Booth said: “It’s always great to have Yorkshire at Shaw Lane. There were some top players on show this week including our own Owen Smith who we have very high hopes for.”
