A PAIR of avid fundraising groups are continuing their selfless work despite smashing their initial targets.

The ‘Grabby Grannies’ meet at the Heaven and Ale pub on Agnes Road in Kingstone at 1pm every Thursday and have held fundraisers from auctioning off pork pies to weekly events in a mission to initially raise £1,000 for Barnsley Hospice.

They’ve been working alongside members of the Top O’Doderth Bottom Club, who meet every Tuesday, to raise funds for Barnsley Hospice.

To date they’ve raised more than £36,000 - and they’ve decided to branch out their fundraising for a variety of different charities.

Judy Holling, who is a member of both groups, told the Chronicle: “In April we managed to raise £600 for Weston Park Cancer Charity.

“Then the month after we raised £500 for Better Lives, a charity which supports adults in Barnsley.

“We’re now hosting our next event on Tuesday for BIADS.

“Up to now we’ve raised £36,000 in total for Barnsley Hospice as well as the other money for the new charities.

“We can’t thank everybody enough for all they’re doing to support us.

“It really does make a difference.”
