PADDLERS from Barnsley will be representing Great Britain at the European Championships next month in Prague.

Matilda Langridge, from Lundhill, Darfield’s Jane Burren and Damian Napper, from Jump, have all been called up with Napper also acting as assistant coach.

Their teammates Grace Rosser and Kwok Kei Wong are also in the team.

It will be the 15th European Championships and Britain will be hoping to better the bronzes they recorded in Spain over 200m, 500m and 2,000m.

The same team also finished fourth in the World Championships in Thailand last year.

The members all represent Dearne Valley Dragons, based in Mexborough, a club they formed after previously training at Manvers.

Napper is pleased to see the team make it to the highest level.

He said: “I personally have worked hard with these guys to get them to a point where they were able to trial, they worked hard to get through trials and have shown so much strength and determination to succeed.

“Dragon boating is very costly and it’s a personal financial commitment which costs thousands from starting the journey to the competition.”
