YOUNGSTERS in Great Houghton will be celebrating after the area’s village hall committee secured almost £30,000 in funding for new play equipment.
The funding, which was handed to the committee through the Pride of Place grant scheme, will help deliver three new pieces of accessible playground equipment at Pleasant Avenue Park.
A new nest swing, accessible roundabout and monkey bars will be added to the site in the coming months - at a cost of £41,513.
The committee’s chair, Coun Dorothy Coates, told the Chronicle they had worked with Great Houghton Parish Council who agreed to take on the maintenance of the site.
Great Houghton Youth Group also supported the project by choosing the final pieces of equipment.
Coun Coates added: “Young people at the youth group researched pieces of equipment that they would like and considered things like age range and disability friendly equipment.
“It’s been a lovely project and I’m so glad that the funding was granted.
“We’ll be looking for further funding for the park to make it into a proper family facility.
“However that will take time.”
