Barnsley have released Nicky Cadden, Robbie Cundy, Devante Cole, Herbie Kane and Jordan Williams while offering a new deal to Matty Wolfe.

Joe Ackroyd, Mylan Benjamin, Daniel Benson, Josh McKay, Alex Joof and Paul Cooper have also been released while the Reds have triggered their options to increase Ben Killip and Aiden Marsh’s deals for a year.

Captain Williams, top-scorer Cole, Kane and Cadden were the top appearance-makers last season while Cundy missed it through injury.

Wolfe has been out for more than a year with a knee injury which he is still recovering from.

Sporting director Mladen Sormaz said: "All five of the senior players leaving at the end of their contracts have served the Club with distinction and can leave Oakwell knowing they made a difference on and off the field.

"When given the opportunity, Robbie gave everything he could for the shirt, Nicky was involved in some pivotal moments, Herbie got the Oakwell crowd off their feet on many occasions and Devante scored some crucial goals for the Reds over his time at the club. A special mention for Jordan, as a player he has been great, but as a captain and a leader he has really excelled. We wish them well for the future, I am sure they will always be welcomed back to Oakwell.

“This message is extended to (last season’s loanees) Conor (Grant), John (McAtee), Jamie (McCart) and Liam (Roberts) who have always represented the badge with distinction and for our academy players who have shown a fantastic attitude whilst with us.

“I want to reassure fans that we are working hard to bring in some new faces who can help us achieve our goals next season and beyond."
