Daniel Stendel has been linked with a return to Barnsley FC as head coach.

The German led the Reds to promotion out of League One in the 2018/19 season then was sacked months later after a poor start to the Championship season.

He then had brief spells at Hearts in Scotland and Nancy in France before returning to previous club Hannover 96 as reserve team coach in 2022.

His side are currently top of their league with three games to play, with their season ending in early June.

Former Barnsley captain Conor Hourihane could return as a player coach, according to reports. The Irishman, 33, is out of contract at promoted Derby this summer.

Barnsley sacked Neill Collins in April then interim boss Martin Devaney oversaw the play-off loss to Bolton Wanderers last week.
