BARNSLEY’S only Conservative MP Miriam Cates has praised the government after it was revealed thousands more households in her constituency now have better broadband.
Across her constituency of Penistone and Stocksbridge in 2019, only two per cent of households had access to gigabit broadband.
This has increased to more than 56 per cent this year.
Mrs Cates said she will work to ensure more of her constituents have access to better broadband.
She added: “I know how important having a fast, reliable broadband connection is for families and businesses.
“That’s why I’m so pleased we’ve made significant progress in rolling out access to gigabit broadband across the constituency since 2019.
“To go from just two per cent to over 50 per cent of premises now having access is a great achievement in just a few years.
“But I know there is still a way to go before everyone is able to get the very best connectivity.
“That’s why I’ve been working with some of our most rural communities such as Langsett to apply for for the government’s Gigabit Voucher scheme.
“I’ll keep working to ensure that everyone can benefit from increased speeds and reliability in their broadband.”
